Wedding Dress Standards

So how do you get guests to dress for the occasion? By laying it out as plainly as you can with every wedding accessory at your disposal, starting with the invitation. By including the dress code in the invitations, you take the worry out of what is appropriate to wear out of the guest's imaginations and into the stark reality of searching for that perfect outfit. Here are a few of the definitions that are making their way onto wedding invitations today:

* White Tie - this is the penultimate of formal, with tuxedo's and long evening gowns the norm. * Formal/Black Tie - synonymous these terms are usually used for events where a man is expected to wear a tuxedo or very formal suit and tie, and where women are expected to wear cocktail or floor-length dresses and/or separates. * Semi-Formal (aka Cocktail) - for an evening wedding, semi-formal indicates a dark suit and tie for men, and a cocktail length dress for women. For a day-time wedding, the definition is similar but the suit can be of a lighter colour and the dress can be shorter. * Lounge suit - this dress code is one of the newest to hit the party circuit and calls for clothing that is chic casual with emphasis more on the chic than the casual. * Dressy Casual - this is a more relaxed look, usually reserved for day-time outdoor weddings, and consist of trousers and a sportcoat for men and dressy pants and tops or lighter-styled dresses for women. * Casual - this is the one every t-shirt and jeans loving person hopes for when receiving that invitation in the mail, for this code - anything goes and guests can wear what they will. As well as spelling out the style for guests on invitations (who can easily search for the terms on the web), you can also ensure that all of your attendants and family members are well versed in explaining the style of dress required, thereby saving you the time and trouble of having to explain to every guest personally. Finally, what do you do if after everything you've done to make it otherwise, a guest arrives in inappropriate clothing?
