Be the Best Dressed at the Ball - How to Buy the Perfect Homecoming Dress

It's almost homecoming again and that means your school's homecoming dance or semi-formal is right around the corner. The homecoming dance can be one of the most memorable times of your life, but you still have a lot to do before the night is upon you. You need to find a date, make a hair appointment, get your nails done, make arrangements on how you will get there, and most importantly, you need to get a dress. There are a lot of dresses out there, so whether this is your first dance or your last one finding the perfect one can be a challenge. Here are a few hints and tips to help you find a great dress for your big night.
Where to Shop: If you want to make sure no one else has the same dress you will be wearing, be careful where you shop. Many of your local department stores will be picked over and chances are you'll run into your homecoming twin at the big dance. Instead of heading to the mall for your dress, check out formal wear stores or boutiques. Many of these places will keep a list of who's wearing what and where to help prevent identical dresses from ruining someone's homecoming or prom. It's also a good idea to look through catalogues and online stores for a unique dress. What to Wear: How formal is your school's homecoming dance. While some schools host a semi-casual homecoming dance where a simple dress or even pants are appropriate, other schools will hold a "semiformal," which will require something a little fancier. If you're not sure, ask friends and upper classmen what that wore the previous year. Don't know anyone or feel uncomfortable asking; check out the year-books from previous years. Look at the pictures of the homecoming dance and you should be able to determine how formal your dress should be. What Length: Decide what length dress you prefer. This homecoming season seems to be all about short fun dresses, but it's important that you wear what you're comfortable in. If you're comfortable wearing a shorter dress, choosing something that goes right below or right above the knee to keep up with the trends this fall. If you're not quite comfortable slipping into a short dress have no fear; there are some longer style dresses out there that you can look great in as well. While the trend is usually what dictates what many girls choose, your comfort is far more important. How to Accessorize: Accessorizing your homecoming dress is a must. Not only will the right necklace complete your look, but other accessories like a shawl or wrap can make the difference between a night spent freezing and a night spent comfortable. When you do choose accessories, there is no need to go overboard and buy expensive jewelry and shoes for one night one fun. Check out your local or mall or second hand store for an affordable jewelry. What Shoes to Wear: If your date is extremely tall then it may be a good idea to choose a pair of high heels to wear with your dress. If your date is not too tall, or if you're lucky enough to have long legs making you a little taller, go for a pair of flats. Shoes in all size heals are in this season so regardless of your situation, you should be able to find the perfect pair to match your dress. When to Shop: Don't wait until the last minute to find the perfect dress because chances are the closer it gets to homecoming the smaller the selection will be. Start your dress search when you find out your going to the dance. This will allow for plenty of time to shop around, get accessories together, and get any tailoring adjustments made before the big night.
